Chapter 20: The Architect Positions the Final Column

What follows is the compiler's reconstruction of a single week in the Architect's operational calendar, assembled from fourteen sources across four institutional archives, none of which individually suggest anything more remarkable than competent administrative work. The reconstruction required eighteen months. I have presented it here with the same documentary apparatus I have applied throughout this compilation. I have not editorialized beyond what the sources themselves compel.

I note, before proceeding, that this chapter was the last I drafted, and the first I revised, and the one I have returned to on the most occasions since the compilation's nominal completion. I have attributed this to the chapter's structural complexity, which is genuine. I have not attributed it to anything else, because I have not found the professional vocabulary to do so accurately.

The Architect's movements on the thirty-first day of the seventh month of the Concordance's penultimate operational year are documented in six separate records, none of which were filed by the same person or archived in the same location, and all of which describe the same day without any of them appearing to know it.
