Chapter 10: Perry Meets Zeus Calloway

Floor thirty-one could wait twenty minutes.

That was what I told myself on the elevator up from the loading dock, standing in the back corner with my hands in my pockets and my phone screen dark and the specific sensation of being inside a building that was watching me move through it. Twenty minutes. I would check my workstation, collect the Q1 supplemental revision I had not finished, establish a visible baseline of normal activity, and then find a reason to be on floor thirty-one before noon.

The envelope was on my chair.
