The letter went out at 7:00 a.m. Pacific on a Tuesday, timed with the kind of deliberateness that announced itself as deliberateness — not a coincidence of the news cycle but a statement about who controlled it.

Morgan had written seven drafts over four months. The final version was three pages. She had removed every sentence that felt satisfying and kept only the sentences that were true.
