Chapter 25: The Double-Feed Goes Wrong

The false intelligence went out on a Tuesday.

Reyes wrote it himself, sitting at the table in Marcus's cipher room with a pencil and a piece of paper that would be destroyed after transcription, and Marcus sat across from him and did not offer guidance on the language because the language had to be Reyes's own. His contact knew his rhythms. Eleven words altered would announce themselves like a frequency shift.

It took Reyes forty minutes to write three sentences. Marcus waited.
