Chapter 16: Daylight Operation, Baltimore Transit Hub

The maintenance truck reached the Franklin corridor at 0643, sixteen minutes ahead of schedule, because Tomás had driven the route four times in the last seventy-two hours and knew which two lights were on fixed cycles and which one you could run at 0400 without a patrol camera catching the plate.

Carol was in the back with the equipment. Zara was in the passenger seat with a laminated transit reroute card and a radio set to the checkpoint frequency, one earpiece in, one out. She had not spoken to Carol since the truck stopped at the staging point on Carey to pick her up. Carol had climbed in, checked the sight lines through the rear vent slats, and said nothing. That was fine. They did not need to speak. They needed the third camera on the eastern segment to stay offline until 0820.

It stayed offline until 0814.
